New CipherJudge product introduced

New CipherJudge product introduced

Sanjole introduces another exciting product called CipherJudge which allows identification of any UE on a commercialized LTE network. Identification of UE’s in the field can be quite difficult due to the lack of information available in a live network.  UE traffic is typically encrypted and the ID being used are temporary such as RNTI or GUTI.  The CipherJudge allows interception of critical ID and key related information from the USIM card which in turn is used by the WaveJudge 5000 powerful real time InteliJudge2 modules and provides quick and easy identification of targeted UE’s.  This allows analysis of one or more UE’s within any network, tracking all data and control plane messaging completely decrypted while charting the channel’s conditions.

“The ability to track any UE regardless of manufacturer within any LTE network, without having to rely on the vendor’s analytics, allow a completely independent view of the behavior during performance affecting times and is extremely beneficial” says Sanjole President, Joe Fala.

First WaveJudge 5000 commercial orders ship

First WaveJudge 5000 commercial orders ship

Sanjole began shipment on commercial orders for the WaveJudge 5000 with most systems being shipped to accommodate Carrier Aggregation testing of 2-3 carriers. This is significant due to the number of ports and frequencies required for these complex test setups which plays well into the form factor and price per port modularity of the WaveJudge 5000.

“While introduction of a new architecture is an exciting milestone for any company, moving product to commercialized production and shipment is one of the most important and satisfying stages for both the company and the client” says Sanjole VP Engineering Sandy Burusco.

Signals Research uses WaveJudge to study four major US mobile operators

Signals Research uses WaveJudge to study four major US mobile operators

Sanjole recently collaborated with Signals Research Group (SRG), a US-based research consultancy to monitor and analyze the performance of commercial LTE networks in the United States.  For the study, SRG leveraged the powerful capabilities of the WaveJudge 4900A LTE Analyzer and the IntelliJudge test platform to capture and analyze all protocol exchanges between the eNBs and all mobile devices within the coverage area.   The study included the four largest mobile operators in the United States and all of the major infrastructure suppliers with the testing taking place in San Francisco and Phoenix, Arizona, including the ASU campus in Tempe.

With the information provided by WaveJudge and IntelliJudge, SRG was able to identify measurable differences between networks / vendors, including differences in MIMO utilization, spectral efficiency, eNB scheduler behavior, and network loading.  The results of the study suggest that while LTE can be a highly-efficient air interface its performance can be meaningfully influenced by device and user behavior and an operator’s network strategy.  The 73-page report concluded by noting that operators should focus on in-building solutions, SON and continuous test and monitoring of its networks to maximize performance.

WaveJudge 5000 goes live at MWC

WaveJudge 5000 goes live at MWC

Sanjole enjoyed an overwhelming response to the introduction of its latest product offering, the WaveJudge 5000. With a record 80,000 attendees at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, there were plenty of visitors to the witness the live demo in Sanjole’s booth.

“Each year we look towards introducing something very dynamic and this year was no exception. The ability to monitor a live LTE network, over the air, that is not controlled by Sanjole during the show, demonstrates the ability of our product to operate with any network under any condition. The system ran for over 4 days consecutively showing all aspects of the eNB LTE connections with all UE’s and their capabilities analyzed, displayed and recorded. This was done over a very chaotic wireless environment” says Sanjole VP John Loia.

Sanjole tests LTE network in Czech Republic

Sanjole tests LTE network in Czech Republic

In early January representatives from Sanjole visited Prague to test and troubleshoot throughput issues in the newly installed LTE network of a Mobile Network Operator.  Sanjole’s WaveJudge/IntelliJudge was first used in the Lab, under ideal conditions, to determine the maximum throughput and performance of a cabled/conducted LTE network, and then was used in the field to determine the reason for poor throughput and performance of the “Over The Air” LTE production network.

It was determined that the eNB was not scheduling all possible Resource Blocks to be used for user data, therefore reducing the maximum possible throughput.  Also, interference with a neighbor sector was measured, which also reduces the performance of the LTE network.

It is interesting to note that typical “Drive Tests” were done prior to the arrival of Sanjole, but it was not possible to find any of these issues during the Drive Tests.

Swiss University uses WaveJudge

Swiss University uses WaveJudge

DECEMBER 2013: The Fribourg University of Applied Sciences in Switzerland uses the WaveJudge to educate their students on the principles of LTE.  Representatives from Sanjole were happy to provide hands-on faculty training in the beautiful city of Fribourg to assist in the development of the LTE curriculum.

Sanjole Monitors Moscow

Sanjole Monitors Moscow

OCTOBER 2013: Sanjole monitored a major Mobile Operator’s LTE network in Moscow to determine the cause of poor throughput performance. Some eNBs had high throughput performance (as expected), but other eNBs, from the same vendor, had poor throughput performance using the same UE. To troubleshoot and determine the root cause, Sanjole’s WaveJudge/IntelliJudge captured OTA signals from both eNBs to analyze the protocols and the Physical Layer RF characteristics.
